God does Exist!

SOmething happened this week, which reinforced my belief that God does exist. This happened on Monday. I have been going to Shiva temple every monday since last 9-10 years. This monday morning, something happened which shok my core. Till this monday, I use to go to the temple, take off my shoes and visit the temple. But this day, something overtook me and I decided that I will pray from outside only and not visit the temple inside. Once, I prayed from outside, I went back to my vehicle, suddenly the key will not turn on the iginition. Nothing wrong with the key. Never gave me any problem till date but suddenly the key will not turn on the iginition. The key works just fine when opening the door. I tried for almost for 10 minutes. Then it suddenly dawned on me, something must be wrong. So I went back to the temple, took off my shoes, went inside and prayed. Came back and now when I try, the key switches on the iginition on the second try. I stand there wondering about the all power force out there who is controlling us. This incident re-inforced my faith in the existence of the all powerful force that we call GOD.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Like any other Harry Potter fan, I was also in line to get my copy of the Book when released on 16th July. Although, not fanatic enough to stand in the line in the early morning and brave the early morning chill. I sensibly bought the book in the evening and contributed towards the 1 lakh copies which have been sold within 48 hours in India.
I took the book home and started reading the same. I have read till date upto chapter 7. The books opens little different with the Muggle Prime minister being appraised of the happenings in the Wizard world and how some of the happenings in the Muggle world were the handicap of the wizard rivalry. Then the scene moves to Harry leaving the Duddleys and moving with Weasley family, how they go about buying their books and robes for the 6th year. I liked the scene where in the train, Draco Malfoy gains an upper hand on Harry and petrifies him. Surprise awaits Harry when he reaches the school. Snape is the new teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts and Horace Slughorn is the new teacher for Potions. Harry has been made the captain of the Quidditch team.

I will keep you updated more when I read the next chapters. Till then Sionara.

My Work

This happened on Monday. I had just settled down in office, when suddenly I get a phone call, the person introduces himself, tells me that my name was referred to him by a mutual friend of ours. He goes on to say that he wants some understanding on a Technical issue. I ask him to drop me a mail and I will reply to that. He goes on to say, that he is meeting some client in an hour and wants the same to be done now.
This really pissed me off, first you need something and then you have the nerves to demand over phone and you don't even have the courtesy to ask if I am free or available and can help? You just barge in and start demanding? like everybody else is working for you out here...
I told him, I have currently doing some work and will not be able to ans his questions right away. Then, I am not sure whether he was throwing names or what, but he starts asking the phone number of my supervisor. Again, I told him I don't know, go and find it yourself.
Sometimes, such people really bug me. I don't know what to make out of them. They think they are doing the world a favor.

Why Vivek Paul Left? and How does it affect Wipro?

My analysis of why Vivek Paul left Wipro begins about 6 years back when Vivek joined Wipro. At that time Wipro was a $150 million dollar company. Vivek articulated the 4X4 vision for the company ( achieving $4 billion by 2004), definitely a big audacious goal at that time. The goal energizes the organization and Vivek helped drive that vision for the next 5 years. Because of the tech meltdown, the actual numbers could not met, but Wipro did achieve lots of other goals. Now, when Wipro achieved $1 billion dollar plus in 2004, time was ripe for another vision, which would once again rejuvenate the company. This also meant, that Vivek needed to part of that vision, own that vision and drive the same for the next 4-5 years at Wipro. The vision had to be challenging enough. Vivek was unable to articulate another vision that could keep his attention for the duration of the vision goal. The challenge and dynamics of growing from $150 million to $1.5 billion is very much different from growing $1.5 billion to $5 billion. At this point, Vivek decided to call quits at Wipro and move on in search of better challenges. Now, with the exit of Vivek, Wipro lost a great ambassador and a spokesperson for the entire IT industry.

How does it affect Wipro?

In the short run, the continuing momentum will keep the company growing for the next 2-3 years. The real challenge will come after that. Will Wipro be happy with a YoY growth of 20-25% or does it need to reinvent itself to get into the next big league. The big league, where current processes need to be redefined and reinvented, the markets will be required to be treated differently. The size will bring its own problems of inertia in terms of resistance to change, the old mindset of the people. The real test will be 2 years down the line, which will determine the kind of growth trajectory Wipro takes. Can Wipro come up with another big hairy audacious goal (BHAG) that will charge the organization to take that giant leap and spurn it to the next Mount Everest?
